Dr. Emmanuel Oke is a research fellow at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. With a profound passion for environmental chemistry and sustainable technologies, Dr. Oke’s research focuses on recovering metals from waste using deep eutectic solvents, ionic liquids, and organic acids.

His scholarly contributions include 19 papers published in high-impact journals and books, earning him 184 citations and an h-index of 7.

Dr. Oke’s research interests are diverse and impactful, encompassing the decontamination of environmental media using sustainable technologies, separation science, synthesis of green solvents for analytes’ preconcentration and extraction, and the development of aqueous biphasic systems for the separation of emerging contaminants from water and wastewater. His work in waste management and resource recovery further underscores his commitment to environmental sustainability.

Throughout his academic journey, Dr. Oke has been honoured with numerous awards and recognitions. He received the Best Young Oral Presentation Award at the Virtual International Conference on Chemical Sciences in Sustainable Technology & Development (IC2S2TD-2020). His academic pursuits were supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Scholarship for his Ph.D. in Chemistry at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and the Chinese Government Scholarship for a Ph.D. in Environmental Science at Shandong University. Recently, he was awarded the Centennial Postdoctoral Award by the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and the Award of Excellence in Research & Development by Veer Narmad South Gujarat University.

In addition to his research, Dr. Oke is actively engaged in professional development and community service. He provides peer review services for several academic journals, including the International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, Journal of Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery, Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry, Arabian Journal of Chemistry, Separation and Purification Technology, Journal of Environmental Management, Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management, Waste Management Bulletin, Desalination, Physicochemical Problems of Mineral Processing, and Journal of Hazardous Materials Advances. Dr. Oke is also dedicated to mentoring students.
