Prof Herman Potgieter attended the 7th International Circular Economy and Urban Landfill Mining Conference (SUM 2024) from 15-17 May 2024 in Capri, Italy where he delivered an oral presentation entitled: ”Separating titanium and iron from an old Ferrovanadium producer waste dump” (J.H. Potgieter, L. Habile and C. Mahlangu). The overwhelming message from the conference was that recycling is going to increase in importance and will be big business over the next two decades. He was also a co-author on another contribution delivered by Dr. Sanja Potgieter-Vermaak, a visiting professor in the School of Chemistry at Wits, entitled: “Consequences of non-circular mining activities” (S. Potgieter-Vermaak, J.H. Potgieter, S. Mafulul, B.Sibiya and H. Mouri).
